Recitation at the University of Göttingen

The quality of the images isn't that good - but at that candlelight there was not much I could do using a 200mm tele-lens without a flashlight...
On 15-Mar-1995 Douglas Adams visited Germany to read from The Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy at the University of Göttingen. I listened to him the second time, because he was here at 14-Mar-1994, too (which was the first time he ever read in front of non-native-english-speaking audience) - and it was GREAT!

There were around 900 people on the meeting and Douglas did a very good job. He jumped on the stage, he screamed and throwed his head to his neck closing his eyes (I just can't express all his gestures with my little english-knowledge ;-) - just have a look at some of the photos I took.

Recording from his reading

From the first reading in 1994 there exists a digital recording (CD-title: Douglas Adams liest aus seinem Reisebuch "Die Letzten ihrer Art" und aus seiner Trilogie "Per Anhalter durch die Galaxis"; order at Zweitausendeins, Postfach, D-60381 Frankfurt am Main; ISBN 3-8077-0290-3).

So that one receives an impression of this reading-event I offer a short part of the recording as MP3-file. Just click the marked text for download.

He did, however, look pitifully small as the gigantic black tank rolled to a halt in front of him. The tank examined him with a probe. The probe withdrew.

Marvin stood there.

"Out of my way little robot," growled the tank.

"I'm afraid," said Marvin, "that I've been left here to stop you."

The probe extended again for a quick recheck. It withdrew again.

"You? Stop me?" roared the tank. "Go on!"

"No, really I have," said Marvin simply.

"What are you armed with?" roared the tank in disbelief.

"Guess," said Marvin.

The tank's engines rumbled, its gears ground. Molecule-sized electronic relays deep in its micro-brain flipped backwards and forwards in consternation.
